Give the Dog a Bone!
One of our favourite activities in Numeracy is ‘Give the Dog a Bone’. We have to race the clock to find 10 numbers/bones on a blank 100 grid, but we only have 60 seconds to do it. Many of us have improved our times during the year as you can see from our record holders below.
William: 29 seconds, Shimal: 37 seconds, Scott: 34 seconds and Anthony: 38 seconds
These times are how many seconds remain on the clock when the 10 numbers/bones have been found. Use the ‘Give the Dog a Bone’ link on our home page to see how well you can complete this activity – can you beat our records?
Ron Murray: Aboriginal Culture Workshop
Ron Murray will be leading us in the Aboriginal Culture Workshop we are attending. Below is a link to a document that gives us some insight into the experiences he has had as part of his life.
St Therese’s Pen Pals
This term we have started to work on a Pen Pal activity with a class from St Therese’s. We have received our first letter from them and today began the process of drafting our replies. We hope the activity will be fun to do and look forward to meeting our Pen Pals in the future if we get the opportunity.
Aboriginal Culture Workshop
On Wednesday September 4th we will be travelling to Cranbourne Library to take part in an Aboriginal Culture Workshop. The workshop will be an opportunity for the children to experience aboriginal culture, with a focus in the session on music, art, storytelling and indigenous history. Below are links to the parent letter and permission note, this post can also be found on our ‘Excursions and Visitors’ page.
Visualisation and Explanation
We have been focusing on how we are able to explain the reasoning for our answers and appropriate ways to represent them. In the photo below you can see our responses to the following problem:
Kaila has 5 black cats and 4 white cats. She feeds 7 of her cats. How many cats are there left for her to feed?
